The D613 is the main road of the city of Bellengreville and the most used one. It crosses many fields before getting to the urbanized area, showing that the city center is far from its administrative boundaries.
A new building is erected on the limit of the old town, along the main road, mixing social collective housing with 9 units, and on the ground floor, a town hall annex for the community Val d'ES Dunes called : “La maison des services”.
The new building with its volumetric shape and urban scale breaks the monotony along the D613 road.
This mixed use building act as the first important building of the area. It is located at the corner of the crossroads that leads to the town hall of Bellengreville.
This plot is the perfect location for a public equipment. It offers a great visibility and will attract a greater number of local residents. The building shape seems to follow the boundaries of the plot. On the side of the D613 road, the equipment is entirely cladded with metallic golden panels changing according to the light of the day. This facade is largely glazed in order to bring maximum light to interior spaces. It is an equipment open to the city.
The social housing program seats on top of “La maison des services” and is partly set back behind the lower volume. There are two levels of housing in a simple white coating volume, accessible directly from the street by a narrow external staircase. All the circulations are rejected along the facade facing the main road to create apartments with two different orientations. Therefore residents walk on large external corridors with view on the surrounding landscape. This system of corridors set back all the apartments from the road to protect them from the noise and the pollution.
These external corridors are space of socialization where all the residents will be able to meet. They will use them according to the events and the weather.
From the ground floor to the last level, the circulation is like an open-air architectural visit.
On the street side, there are few windows to respect and protect the privacy of the occupants. The entrance of the 1st floor apartments are protected by the corridor of the2nd floor. And the circulation at the last level is protected by the overhanging roof of the building.
On the garden side, there are more windows and they are bigger, with large balconies facing the Southwest of the site to allow residents to enjoy the sun.
In order to reduce the road footprint on the plot, the two parking areas are located on the same area of the site, as well as the garage of “La maison des services”.
In addition of the parking, new public car park spaces will be created along the departmental road for the visitors. Their creation will reduce the road width and in the same time decrease the car speed at the city entrance.
The greening of the sidewalk will complete the project and revitalize the city entrance.
This new building will be a city landmark. Its contemporary architecture contrast with the old houses and the suburban environment of the city.
Its volume mark the entry and the beginning of the urbanized area.
In the old part of the city, the project is completed by four individual dwellings (2 two bedrooms and 2 three bedrooms houses) with large gardens. They are fully accessible to the disabled people and have large garages. The houses face the old church and are close to the town hall. They have the same language than the neighboring houses to facilitate their urban integration.
