The LVM bookshop in Ouistreham is located on a commercial street and close to one of the most popular beach in Normandy. The bookshop has a great visibility due to its location on a street corner. It has been victim of its own success and has seen an increase in its attendance since its opening just few years ago.
The owners wished to welcome more clients and provide them better conditions, therefore, they decided to extend their commercial area in order to gain comfort, have more shelf space and reorganize the different thematic areas.
This extension gives also the opportunity to create a real office for the owner so they can receive deliveries and avoid the accumulation of boxes in front of the shop entrance as it is today. A new storage area will also be created in accordance to the volume of their activity.
Our intervention consisted in transforming the apartment adjacent to the bookshop into a new space with its own identity.
This volume is very long and not very wide, so the project followed the length of the room and some alcoves were created to show the different thematic areas and also to increase the shelf space.
The custom-made furniture wraps the whole space and generates some visual links between the different areas of the bookshop.
